Absolutely not. If you are learning to dance by yourself, your teacher will be your dance partner during your lessons.

You should wear something comfortable, that allows for movement during your ballroom dance lessons. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it can be if you want! Most importantly you need a good shoe that will stay securely on your feet, so avoid flip-flops or slide-on shoes. Preferably hard-soled shoes, as tennis shoes and rubber soles, are designed to stick to the floor and we want to glide!

Our instructors at Academy Ballroom are trained to make dancing easy for anyone that walks through our doors. We are able to break down steps and take you at your own pace during private lessons, making learning to dance not only easy but fun as well.

A private lesson is one instructor working one on one with you alone or as a couple. During your lesson, your teacher will help you work on achieving your personal dance goals. Our private lessons are by appointment only and can be scheduled online or by calling the studio during our business hours.

A group lesson consists of several students learning to dance from one instructor. Primarily working on basic steps and techniques, group classes correspond to the level of dancing you are currently working on.

A practice party is an opportunity to practice dancing in a social situation. You will be able to apply the knowledge that you learned on private lessons, or group classes while dancing with a variety of partners. Our staff will be at the parties to dance with you and introduce you to our family of students, helping you get comfortable and advance your dancing.
